What's an OER Collection?
The sites listed on this page contain more than just structured content for a course (i.e. a textbook). Included are lessons, modules, quizzes, homework sets, courses, and simulations.
OER Collections
- SkillsCommonsSponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor, SkillsCommons contains OER materials from many different fields but specializes in the trades and technical subjects. Material comes from Community colleges and trade schools from around the country.
- LibreTextsLibreTexts is a free online textbook collaboration, creation, and collection site. It can include syllabi, lessons, and content. Sponsored by the California State Universities Affordable Textbook Initiative.
- OER CommonsA clearinghouse for all things OER. Includes materials from around the world as well as subsets of curated collections. The site contains a vast amount of information but the materials can be searched by grade level, content type, and subject area.
- OpenStax CNXIncludes a variety of subjects of "Educational material in small modules that can be organized as courses, books, reports or other academic assignments."
- MERLOTMERLOT is "a curated collection of free and open online teaching, learning, and faculty development services contributed and used by an international education community." MERLOT includes open textbooks as well as thousands of other OER materials. Sponsored by the California State University System.
- Lumen LearningLumen Learning is a full service OER provider that helps create and provide open courses and materials for both students and educators in a variety of subjects. Although there can be a per student charge for their support and customization, the courses and course materials are available free of charge.
- Open OregonA repository of the open materials used by higher education instructors across the state of Oregon.
OER Repositories
- UH OER RepositoryA place for UH faculty to retain and share the OER they plan to use in their classes. Use this link to get to the repository as well as find more information as well as the users guide.
Library Resources
Although they are not traditional OER, you can use library materials such as articles from databases, films or even eBooks in your class to help reduce textbook costs to students.
- Databases A - ZThe alphabetical listing of all the databases to which the library subscribes. Includes access to thousands of different magazine/journal titles and millions of articles.The list can be filtered by subject or by type of database (images, eBooks, journals, etc...)
- eBraryA direct link to eBrary, a collection of over 70,000 different eBooks in all subjects.
- Films on DemandThis resource provides access to over 7000 full length videos and documentaries (as well as 77,000 segments) which can be embedded directly into your course or Laulima site.
