Study guides and other resources to help you prepare for PRAXIS tests

The PRAXIS Test

The Praxis tests measure the knowledge and skills you need to prepare for the classroom. Whether you are entering a teacher preparation program or seeking your certification, these tests will help you on your journey to become a qualified educator. Praxis tests include:

Praxis I Core Academic Skills for Educators Tests: comprehensive assessments that measure the skills and content knowledge of candidates entering teacher preparation programs.

  • These tests measure academic skills in reading, writing and mathematics deemed by teacher educators to be essential for all candidates preparing to be teachers, no matter what content area or grade-level they aspire to teach.
  • Colleges and universities may use the Praxis Core tests to evaluate individuals for entry into teacher education programs. The assessments are generally taken early in your college career. Many states also require Praxis Core scores as part of their teacher licensing process.

Praxis II Subject Assessments: tests that measure general and subject-specific content knowledge that you need for beginning teaching.

  • These tests measure knowledge of specific subjects that K–12 educators will teach, as well as general and subject-specific teaching skills and knowledge. Praxis Subject Assessments include over 90 different tests, ranging from Agriculture to World Languages.
  • Individuals entering the teaching profession take the Praxis Subject Assessments as part of the teacher licensing and certification process required by many states. Some professional associations and organizations require Praxis Subject Assessments as a criterion for professional licensing decisions.
