1) Virtual Library Scavenger Hunt

Introduces students to the library's virtual programs and services with a fun, scavenger hunt approach.

2) Introduction to Academic Research




Introduces students to various aspects of academic research, including the student's role in scholarly communication, online source evaluation, and using information strategically and responsibly.

Objectives: By the end of this tutorial students will be able to:

  • identify strategies for using information strategically and responsibly.

  • recognize their role in scholarly communication. 

  • explore "post-truth" source evaluation techniques.


     

3) Library Research at UHMC
 




Introduces students to the library website and all that it has to offer. Students learn to perform strategic tasks within core databases and search systems. 

Fun Stat (Fall 2019): Upon completion, 95% of all participants indicated that they felt Comfortable or Very Comfortable using the library website.

Objectives: By the end of this tutorial students will be able to:

  • identify a variety of search options from the library homepage.

  • select different databases to search.

  • search and retrieve items from the library catalog and article databases.

  • recognize the different help tools available from the library homepage.


 

4) How to Spot Fake News Tutorial




Introduces students to source evaluation strategies for identifying and working with online news.

  • identify the characteristics for fake and real news.

  • evaluate whether a source is fake.

  • differentiate between types of fake news.

  • consider how their own biases affect their ability to reason.  

  • recognize their responsibility in the spread of information.
